Dr. Ozietta D. Taylor is a Full Professor at Coppin State University and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor with more than 30 years of experience in counselor education, substance use disorder treatment, and mental health rehabilitation. She teaches master’s-level courses in addiction prevention, advanced counseling techniques, psychopharmacology, abnormal psychology, and diagnosis and assessment. Dr. Taylor previously served as Coordinator of the Master of Science Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling Program, where she helped strengthen curriculum development for graduate students.
Dr. Taylor earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Union Institute & University, a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychological Services from Coppin State University. Her clinical background includes extensive work in public housing communities, residential treatment settings, developmental disabilities services, and private practice.
Her scholarship focuses on substance use disorders, adolescent mental health, trauma, women’s issues, and culturally responsive treatment approaches. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in the *Journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment* and is the author of multiple books, clinical videos and clinical workbooks addressing substance abuse treatment, mental health rehabilitation, and counselor preparation. She also served as Guest Editor for the Contemporary Substance Use Research.
In addition to her academic and clinical work, Dr. Taylor is a consultant and program developer, having established several substance abuse and mental health treatment programs. She is the creator of the educational YouTube series "Therapy Clips by Dr. O", and the Institution of Alcohol and Drug Psychoeducation, which provides accessible mental health and substance use education to the broader community.
Dr. Taylor’s work reflects a longstanding commitment to advancing behavioral health education, expanding access to treatment, and preparing the next generation of professional counselors.
